Royal Selangor has again won international recognition for one of its innovative designs.

Royal Selangor's William Morris inspired collection of pewter wine accessories has been awarded the 1997 Gift of the Year Award (Licensed Gifts category) by the Giftware Association and gift trade fair organiser, Trade Promotion Services of the United Kingdom.

This year the competition received some 500 entries and the winners of the 10 different categories were announced at an award ceremony in London recently, hosted by designer and television personality, Jeff Banks. The General Manager of Royal Selangor UK, Peter Coleman received the prize on behalf of Royal Selangor. Winning items were judged on best quality, best design and value for money.

The winning range comprises six highly collectable wine accessories, featuring Morris inspired designs based on original material provided by London's Victoria & Albert Museum.

The range includes an ornate wine decanter, a pewter bottle coaster with delicate motifs, a decorative all-pewter corkscrew, a brilliantly polished pewter funnel and a wine record book with a beautifully engraved pewter plaque on its cover.

Royal Selangor chose William Morris as its source of inspiration for this series due to his visionary outlook on art and design in his time as well as his enduring spirit and strength in his artistic heritage. .

The designs, like those of William Morris's in his time, exude classical charm and timeless attention to detail and precision. One cannot help but admire his tenacity and expressionistic interpretations of medieval art and natural forms.
