Lush camellia blossoms interspersed with leaves, carved on a 15th century red lacquer ware box, make for equally opulent decoration on the lid of a handsome octagonal container designed by Freeman Lau.

Based on a round lidded box with camellia decoration, carved red lacquer ware; Ming dynasty, Yongle reign (1403-1424)

Freeman Lau, a founding partner of Hong Kong’s Kan and Lau Design Consultants, is a graphic designer and fine artist, a frequent speaker at international design forums, and the recipient of the HKSAR government’s Bronze Bauhinia Star in recognition of his contributions in enhancing the identity of Hong Kong design.
