Games of strategy have a venerable history of around five millenia. In particular, Western or international chess is believed to have originated in India in the 6th century CE, while anecdotal accounts date xiangqi or Chinese chess to the Warring States period (c 475 BCE).
Our chess sets make no claim to such provenance but instead celebrate the myriad possibilities in forms and styles of contemporary design.
