Jeffri joined Royal Selangor's first retail store in Kuala Lumpur as a sales assistant in 1986. With a passion for sales and wanting to excel, the young man observed his seniors closely and learned how to engage with customers.
“My mentors, Helena and Saras taught me that voice and body language was very important in sales. You’ll have to learn how to engage clients in a way that comes off genuine, trustworthy, and likeable.” He reminisced.
Jeffri’s strong work ethic caught the eye of his superiors. He quickly worked his way up Royal Selangor's Malaysian retail operations, managing and training various teams based in stores around Kuala Lumpur.
Time and again, however, Jeffri found himself pushed to the limit during his long career. He had to deal with client demands, competition and getting the next sale.
When asked about his secret to keeping cool under fire, Jeffri had this to say, “I accept situations as they are and act accordingly. I tell myself I’ve been here for a long time. I know how things work and I will be able to handle whatever that comes my way. And I love Royal Selangor. The directors and colleagues treat me like family. This drives me to work harder. It is this attitude that I intend to pass on to my younger team members to motivate them.”
2020 marks his 34th year and he has weathered many tough economic times with Royal Selangor.
“We went through recessions, the Gulf War, the financial crisis. I’ve stuck to the company through thick and thin, regardless of the opportunities that were before me,” said Jeffri proudly.
Today he is entrusted with the singular responsibility of managing Royal Selangor’s flagship store in Pavilion KL. His smooth progression through the ranks is also mirrored in the many joyful milestones that he has achieved in life.
“I got married, bought my first car and had my two daughters while in Royal Selangor. Today, I am a proud grandfather.” Jeffri beams.
Jeffri’s story is a reminder of how it’s possible to build a successful career path within a single organisation and create a rewarding life for one’s self at the same time.
