Hamsiah Abdul Aziz
Corporate Sales Manager
Workin' Mom!
Hamsiah’s journey with Royal Selangor began in 1982. She started at the tourist centre and quickly moved on to bespoke commissions under the tutelage of Mrs MK Chen. Since then she has met with dignitaries around the world, negotiated with high ranking government officials, and pitched proposals to royalties.
Despite her quiet and reserved nature, Hamsiah enjoys sharing Royal Selangor stories with her clients.
When asked how she did it, she said, “After working as a salesperson at a local tourist attraction shop, I joined Royal Selangor as a junior salesperson at the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre
"Although my ambition was to become a school teacher, I stayed doing what I did at Royal Selangor because I was amazed by the products. I come from Batu Gajah which is in the Kinta Valley, once the world’s richest tin producing area. Tin is part of my heritage. This is the reason why it is easy for me to talk about Royal Selangor products with my clients." she added.
"The late Mrs. MK Chen, who was a Royal Selangor Director and 3rd generation family member, was like a mother to me. She trained me in Royal Selangor's bespoke service, from getting details from customers, working with our designers, to getting design proposals out. Not many junior employees experienced being trained by a director of a company. She was always so caring and available whenever I needed help. I feel very honoured to have worked with her." she said.
In 1989, when Hamsiah had her first child, Azureen, she quickly learnt how to care for someone else, nurture, mentor and love dearly.
"If I had to sum Royal Selangor up from a personal viewpoint, it is like family. It is embedded in my relationship with clients, colleagues and the company directors. Azureen works here at Retail Administration, ensuring our stores are well stocked and ready to serve customers!” she exclaimed, proudly.
Being a working mum means constantly juggling professional responsibilities and family commitments. A supportive workplace where everyone has a sense of belonging goes a long way towards balancing motherhood and work. Let’s celebrate our working mums whose dedication and passion have made a difference at Royal Selangor.
