Texting Goddess
Celeste oversees Royal Selangor’s corporate and retail sales in Malaysia as well as its associate brands, Comyns and Selberans. It’s her 7th year here.
But nothing prepared her for 2020. The Lockdown was particularly challenging.
“Although the stores were closed and we couldn’t interact with the customers face to face, the conversation with our customers continued through phones and emails. During this difficult time, we wanted to ensure our customers are doing fine. They still continued to show their support for the brand and ordered from us. We made extra effort to ensure that our customers received their orders on time,” says Celeste.
When the Lockdown ended, Celeste and her team faced a very different retail environment.
Celeste adds, “After the Lockdown, we invited our customers back to our stores but some were very careful and did not want to leave their homes. So, we took our conversations online by communicating with them via email, short messaging with pictures and videos. Our marketing team helped us by providing exciting videos and information via our social media pages. It was actually quite exciting! Customers started coming back to the stores, asking for products that they saw on our posts, Phonos for example."
2020 is also a very important year.
“Royal Selangor has been around for 135 years. It has gone through two world wars and economic turmoil and still manages to keep going. The pandemic may be with us now, but it too will pass.
That’s what our 135th anniversary pop-up exhibitions are all about. Although staying positive is hard in times of adversity, we must continue to strive and share our positive stories and journeys. I hope our story will inspire people to be resilient,” she adds.
The human spirit is always able to adjust to any environment and occasion. Its resolve, ingenuity and resilience will take Royal Selangor forward in this century and beyond.
