Leong Pei Yin
Audit Manager
Supersleuth
Pei Yin joined Royal Selangor in 2011 as an Internal Auditor. Her role, essentially, is to make sure that the internal control processes within Royal Selangor are in tip-top condition.
“When something pops up, I’m on it immediately. I turn on my inner Sherlock Holmes! I investigate, speak to people and sift through paperwork. I admit that it requires a lot of diplomacy and can be frustrating at times, but when everything fits together and I find the root cause of the problem and a way to solve it, I get a real sense of achievement. That’s why I love my work.”
When she first joined, she discovered that Royal Selangor is more than just retail.
Pei Yin explains, “Royal Selangor is one of the few companies in Malaysia that owns the entire value chain of a business from product design to manufacturing, marketing and retail. And it’s also a century-old company with its own heritage and way of doing things.”
Pei Yin is lucky to have a mentor to help her at every step of the way.
“Raj didn’t just guide me on the company’s operations, he taught me how to be a good internal auditor. He trained me on how to combine concrete facts and context into a good audit report. And, he also had me sit in on meetings so I learnt how to conduct a good investigative interview, “explains Pei Yin.
She currently leads Royal Selangor’s ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system upgrade that will incorporate best practices and fulfil critical business needs of all departments and business units in the company.
“I think my experience as an internal auditor helped me prepare for this role. I have to think outside the box, ask hard questions and keep my team focused to ensure we have the best possible system for everyone involved,” says Pei Yin.
Technology and modern business practices are a must in running any enterprise, especially for a century-old one. Royal Selangor appreciates diligent personalities like Pei Yin who ensure that protocols are adhered to and updated ever so often. Their efforts help ensure Royal Selangor’s longevity in years to come.
