When Royal Selangor acquired Englefields London Ltd in 1987, it had seen its fair share of managers and leaders. However, things started to get exciting when Peter joined the Bethnal Green-based outfit in 1996. With his vast experience at Royal Worcester Spode and Pimpernel, he brings with him deep knowledge and insights in the home, tableware and gift industry.
His fate with Royal Selangor was a case of love at first sight.
“I first came across Royal Selangor when travelling to Australia on business in 1979. I fell in love with the products, in particular the inspired designs, high quality and precision. When I heard that they were looking for someone to manage Englefields, I applied for the position immediately and the rest is now history,” he explained.
Peter played a major role in restructuring and rebranding Englefields to what is Royal Selangor Pewter UK today, whilst keeping Englefields' Crown and Rose hallmark for some exclusive pewter items for the UK market. He was also instrumental in developing our very successful children's gifts with Teddy Bears' Picnic. His passion is also in silverware and he was instrumental in re-launching Comyns, a prestigious silversmith also part of the Royal Selangor family.
“I was a customer of Comyns back in the early days. Soon after I joined Royal Selangor, I actively promoted the brand and sold Comyns’ sterling silver pieces through luxury retailers including Harrods, London. The UK market grew to become the largest world market for Comyns sterling silver. It is easy when you love the products,” he added.
He also values the strong working relationships that he has built and relishes watching the company grow.
“I’ve always naturally felt like I was part of the Royal Selangor family. My proudest moment was when I was invited to join the Board of Directors of Royal Selangor. As a senior member of this family, I’ve had the privilege of mentoring people like Craig Skinner, the UK sales director, lending them an ear when issues crop up or even a hand when required.
I am very proud that Royal Selangor is celebrating its 135th anniversary this year. I’ve watched how far Royal Selangor has progressed. The credit is to all of the employees of Royal Selangor and the skills and talents that exist home and abroad. I feel honoured to think that I have made a small contribution to that,” said this grandfather of three.
Royal Selangor is grateful for driven, faithful and passionate individuals like Peter. Their leadership and strategic insights help to chart a strong and steady course for the brand through a future filled with change and challenges, as we celebrate our 135 years of anniversary this year. We are also grateful for the ability to stand the test of time because of the will and dedication from the employees and the loyal support from our customers and partners.
