24K gilded double-coin motifs, signifying the welcoming of prosperity, form cardinal points against a field of peonies, symbolic of love and beauty, interspersed with five bats representing the homonym wu fu or Five Good Fortunes of good health, wealth, longevity, virtue and a peaceful demise. The indented corners and overall proportions mimic a Qing dynasty Guangxu reign (1875 – 1908) porcelain tea tray.
Fits a standard 4R (10cm x 15cm/4in x 6in) photographic print.
About the collection A modern expression in pewter of extravagantly coloured nonya ware, unique to the Peranakan communities of Penang, Malacca and Singapore.
