Malaysia’s wau belong to an extremely exclusive club of unique indigenous kite forms. Ranging in size from child-friendly playthings to competition kites at times larger than an adult, the wau is a cherished national icon from peninsular Malaysia’s agrarian north-east.
Showcasing the wide variety of designs and the spectacular intricacy of their cut paper decorations, the famous wau bulan or moon kite leads a flight across an impressive plaque, mimicking the breathtaking sight of these exotic kites soaring in scores over fields at harvest.
In fine pewter framed in wood, and a bronze-hued composite resin backdrop of songket brocade motifs, the plaque is designed for both landscape and portrait display.
Included is a 2.5cm x 12.5cm engraving plate for personalisation.
About the collection Malaysia’s warisan or heritage is a result of millennia of trade and settlement of peoples from across the Malay Archipelago and the great hinterland of Asia.
